Equinox Weekend in Mt Baldy (Helene’s Cabin)
Thurs. Sept 19 – Sun. Sept 22. 2024
Hello Songmakers’ TEAM BALDY!
Facilities: We can still accomodate a few more overnighters and day trippers. There is no room around the cabin for camper vans. However, you can come up for the day(s) if you’re local or stay at nearby Manker Flat campground, ¼ mile away (no electric, no reservations, first-come first-served, best to arrive there Thursday early). DIRECTIONS:
Attention: There is no phone signal where I live ! (Note : there is wifi once you’re at the cabin, so you’ll be able to make wifi phone calls here– just not for 20 minutes as you drive up or down the mountain) The cabin is a little hard to find and your GPS may not work. Please PRINT or DOWNLOAD these directions. Try to arrive in the day time.
After the Mt Baldy village, keep driving up about 4 miles up. You will see Snowcrest Lodge on your left. Make a LEFT into the little driveway JUST above Snowcrest where a sign says « Snowcrest Cabins » (if you see Manker Flats campground on your right, you went too far). Then, immediately take the second possible RIGHT into the side alleys, just after the “Road closed” sign. My cabin sits up on the hill, brown color.
PARKING :
You can park either in my parking area, the lower alley, or the main road about 100 yards down. Please do not park in my neighbors’ driveways. It’s best if you walk up to the cabin with your stuff when you arrive, and I’ll guide you for parking.
WEATHER :
Contrary to the photo, there won’t be snow ! 🙄 Temperatures will likely be PERFECT, 70s-80s, 60s at night. We’ll double-check the weather beforehand, of course, to avoid any major apocalypse.
BRING:
- Instruments, bien sûr!
- air mattress, sleeping bag, pillow (or sheets, see below)
- clothes, swimsuit, toiletry, bath towel
- Drinks (no food).
- Chairs
- Cash for meals: $20/day or $50 for the weekend
MUSIC:
I have a piano, 2 guitars, a Gemini speaker with mike and bluetooth, percussions. We can jam in four areas: front patio, back patio, living room, basement.
HIKES and other activities:
For those who are up for it, we’ll go on a few short hikes in the area. Take a natural shower at the nearby San Antonio Falls (swimsuit required, in theory). And we’ll celebrate the Equinox (ideas ?) And have delicious meals and drinks. And… ?
MEALS:
I will be shopping ahead. We’ll prepare French meals together (oui oui oui!). Please let me know about specific diet options. You don’t need to bring anything to eat. There isn’t much storing room here. Please just bring bottles of whatever you feel like drinking and sharing. Breakfast will be small (coffee/tea, French bread with butter and jam), served at 9AM. Lunch will be bountiful, served at 12PM. Dinner as well, served at 7PM. I’ll also have snacks and fruit for in-between. I count on you for dishes and cleanup.
WIFI: Wifi in the cabin is available.
BATHROOM:
There is only one bathroom, with shower and toilet. Please be brief !
SLEEPING:
- There will be plenty of room in my large, clean basement, or in the living room. Bring a mattress (I have a few if you need one). Day guests, you can always bring a sleeping bag to sleep in the basement, just in case! Feel free to invite a few others, we’ll find room. For small camping vans, Manker Flat campground is ¼ mile away, no electricity. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/angeles/recarea/?recid=41776
2. There is room for more Day guests – who else is in?
CAUTION:
The cabin is located 4 miles above Mt Baldy village, at 6000 ft altitude. There are about 50 rather uneven and dangerous steps to climb to the cabin. Not great if you have difficulties walking or breathing.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY (aka, the small print) :

Those include, but are not limited to, trip and fall injuries, including in and around the cabin, bee stings, tick, snake bites etc..
