Roundup – February 25, 2023

Songmakers of California Round-Up

February 25th 2:00pm-6:00pm

Round-Up is our annual meeting where elections are held for board members and individuals are recognized for their contributions to Songmakers of California.  It is traditionally a chance to interact with other members by participating in a live concert and pot-luck dinner, but for the past few years, it has been held online using the Zoom platform due to COVID. The board has voted to hold it via zoom again this year.  Please join us on February 25th 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the zoom link listed below.

This year we are trying something new by creating “satellite” watch parties.  Members are encouraged to invite other Songmakers into their home to experience Round-Up together.  If you would like to be a host for one of these watch parties, it will be up to you to invite others, collect rsvps, set limits on the number of guests that fit your space and set covid testing requirements.   It would be beneficial to beam it on to your tv or other large screen.  Songs may be performed live (on Zoom) or a prerecorded video can be submitted to be played.  You can also suggest a memorial clip you have honoring a Songmaker who has passed away.

Each hour will have a different facilitator/host.   Songs or videos are limited to five minutes. If you would like to participate by singing a song or submitting a video, the time slots are:

  • 2:00-3:00
  • 3:00-4:00
  • 4:00-5:00
  • 5:00-6:00

Please respond with the following information:

  • Your name
  • First time slot choice
  • Second time slot choice
  • Title of song and performer (s)
  • Will this be live or a video you will play or send the host?

Send your responses and any videos you wish to suggest to Andy Gelencser at: roundup@songmakers.org  no later than February 15th so he can post the final line up before round-up.

Here is the zoom invitation for February 25th.

See you there, and let’s have a great musical 2023!

PS – (IMPORTANT)

Zoom recently changed the default setting for the field “Original Sound for Musicians” from whatever you had it set to in your last Zoom meeting to “off”.  This means that each time you open a zoom session where you want people to hear you play music, YOU MUST SET IT TO “ON”. Otherwise, your musical instruments will be filtered out as “noise” and only voice will be heard online.

It is most easily done on most platforms by looking for “Original Sound for Musicians” next to a green shield icon in the upper left hand corner of your main zoom screen. It will toggle from off to “ON” (and back) each time you click on the text while you are in the Zoom meeting. Make sure you leave it “ON”. It can also be found in the “Audio Settings” menu accessed by clicking the caret to the right of the microphone icon at the bottom of the main Zoom window. Please make sure you know how to do this and set it to “ON” somehow before you play.
