It is sad to bring you the news that Dorna Shapiro McKee went to join our Songmakers Heavenly Hoot on 10/31. She was hospitalized for an operation from which she did not awaken. Dorna was a lovely person who seemed always to have a smile and a story. She will be missed by all who had the good fortune to get to know her. Our sincerest condolences go out to her family, son Glenn Gainor, grandchildren and her husband, Patrick Sardella, who is a delightful person in his own right. Dorna’s funeral will be held in Boston where she’ll be laid to rest. Patrick & Glenn are planning to host a celebration of her life sometime following their return to California. In lieu of flowers and because of Dorna’s love of the arts, Glenn suggests donations to the Malibu Art Association Visual Arts scholarship fund – 2914 S Foose Rd, Malibu, CA 90265 – malibu.org – 310-456-5302.

A funeral will be held for my mother Dorna Shapiro this Thursday who died October 31. We will celebrate her life in LA at a time to be determined. I for one am at a loss for words so I will quote my daughter: “You have been through an immense amount of pain my whole life and it is finally over. Oma, I cannot believe that you are gone. Positivity is what kept your cancer from killing you all of these years. I can’t get your contagious laugh out of my head. You are the nicest person I know. You taught me how to always think positive. I am so happy that I got to have a childhood with you. I love you so so so much. Thanks for being an amazing grandma.”
